If you haven't seen these babies on instagram I'm going to assume you don't follow a single beauty blogger. They are everywhere at the moment and for very good reason. I am a huge liquid lipstick lover and cannot remember the last time I wore an actual lipstick applied from the bullet but oh my god am I in love with these. These are the new offering by Bourjous - Rouge Velvet The Lipstick*
The pigmentation of these lipsticks is out of this world. The swatches at the bottom are two light swipes. I honestly cannot get over the colour payoff. Even the darker shades still apply amazingly. There's no streaking or patchiness. I do find that the formulation of these is quite soft and they can be a bit slippy (I don't know what word to use) to apply. I would definitely recommend using a lip liner to make application easier. I have been loving the Bourjois Contour liner* that I was sent as it's a clear one so you don't need a different one for all 12 colours.
That being said once these lipsticks are on they stick around. They dry down to a matte finish, although not as matte as some of my liquid lipsticks. I assumed that because they were so moisturising and soft that they would smudge all over my face as soon as I ate anything but this is not the case. The first night I tried these I had a spag bol and it was still firmly in place with only the tiniest bit of fading in the centre. They last 7+ hours with minimal fading. I had to touch Rubi's cute up a little bit after 2 meals and several coffees but apart from that I had it on for about 10 hours and it was still extremely comfortable.
I am in love with the tear drop applicator. When I first saw it I thought I would hate it as I love pointed lipsticks. However, it just fits perfectly to my lip shape and I can apply to my cupids bow so easily without getting it everywhere. The tear drop shape just makes application a dream. That being said I have seen some other bloggers who didn't get on with it as much but it's super easy to apply with a brush as well.
The packaging is nice and cute and makes it easy to grab the colour you want. I love that the whole tube shows what colour it is instead of just the bottom. All the shade names are written on the side with the number also on the bottom. The only thing with this packaging is the lid can be a tad difficult to get off when my hands are playing up. I found that it can be a bit stiff. However, that does mean the lids aren't going to come off in your bag and ruin everything.
Now onto the glorious shades:
01 Hey Nude! - A real beige nude
02 Flaming Rose - A touch of pale nude
03 Hyppink Chic - Deep pink
04 Hip Hip Pink - Pinky red
05 Brique-A-Brac - A reddish light brown
06 Abrico' Dabrail - A sweet & fresh peach nuance
07 Joli Carmin'ois - A pepsy red with an orange undertone
08 Rubi's cute - An intense red
09 Fuchsia Botte - A beautiful fuchsia with a hint of blue
10 Magni-Fig - A deep and intense purple
11 Berry Formidable - A deep burgundy
12 Brunette - A dark brown with a red undertone
I think my top 3 shades have to be Rubi's cute, Magni-Fig and Berry Formidable and I will definitely be getting a huge amount of wear out of them in the colder months. I am also a huge fan of Hey Nude! It's the perfect nude for me. I also cannot get over how bright and stunning Joli Carmin'ois is. It's truly gorgeous.
For £8.99 they are on the pricey side for a drugstore lipstick but I am in love with them and they are worth it
If you love a matte lip but hate anything too drying then I highly recommend these. If you love lipsticks but hate how often you have to reapply then these are also for you. All in all if there is a shade there you love then you should definitely pick it up.
In conclusion
- Love the shades especially the reds and berrys
- The packaging is sturdy and cute although I do struggle to get the lids off with my crappy hands
- Pretty long lasting for a non liquid lipstick
- Comfortable to wear
- Moisturing
- Need a lip liner
- Super pigmented
- Definitely recommend.
Have you tried them yet? Are you more of a matte or a shine lover?
